Have you ever worked on a very important document and incidently removed all files in your working directory? Even if you have never experienced this Konserve would be worth looking at, because it helps you having a backup handy.
Currently Konserve can be told to create tar.gz files of one or more given directories or files. It will then write the the backups to given directories or files. And if you say so it will do it in a periodical manner. And if the big bang happens - you deleted a very important file - you can restore the missing file from the latest backup.
